First, chocolate milk was under fire. Now, tater tots may be on the chopping block at schools.
The government is thinking about limiting potatoes kids get through school lunch programs. But potato growers are fighting back, arguing spuds are high in potassium and vitamin C and should not be considered junk food.
Healthy food advocates say they are not anti-potato – they just think kids need a wider variety of fruits, vegetables and whole grains to fight the childhood obesity rates that have tripled in the past 30 years.
What do you think?

I think there are healthier ways to eat potatoes – roasted, etc…
We don’t need to always serve potatoes in the form of tater tots and french fries.
I guess I’d argue that they take the dessert off the lunch tray before the tater tots. At least the tater tots are a vehicle for ketchup, which the school lunch program deems (cough, cough) a vegetable.
Is ketchup STILL considered a vegetable? Really? I thought that was over.
Yes! But it’s not going to change anything.
I can’t believe chocolate milk was taken off the menu. That was the ONLY way I ever drank milk as a child.
As for tater tots, I agree with the other commenter. Their are better ways to eat potatoes than tater tots. Potatoes are one of the most nutrient dense vegetables around. I highly encourage my kids to eat potatoes, although we do not eat tater tots. (I just never liked them.)

I think the chocolate milk thing is still being debated…
What Dr. J said.

I’m not such a big fan of the push to remove chocolate milk, but I can definitely get behind removing tater tots! Potatoes are wonderful things, but I’d rather my child get potatoes that aren’t deep fried puffs with their lunch.

I remember looking forward to days when we had tater tots on the menu. I don’t think this is the reason why many kids are overweight. Everything in moderation, especially sedentary activities for kids like video games. If kids got outside and played like they used to then cutting tater tots and other potatoes wouldn’t be an issue. http://blog.mydiscoverhealth.com/
Our school doesnt let us have chocolate milk..everyone complains about it i dont know how they feel because i dont drink milk but they also took away salt and pepper like is that really going to do anything?! i dont think so! Now if my school takes away tots that will be so not cool!
No salt and pepper shakers? Seriously? I have not heard of schools doing that before.
There are more unhealthy things served in school than tater tots. If anything, get rid of the burgers and pizza
