Who doesn’t like a tasty, store-bought but home-baked chocolate chip cookie every now and then? I figure if you can only have one or two (moderation is key!), you might as well go for the yummiest, right?
Panelists from Consumer Reports just rated seven frozen or refrigerated cookie doughs. Calories per cookie ranged from 100 to 150. The results in order of overall quality:
VERY GOOD – complex flavors, fresh-baked taste, chocolatey chips
- Trader Joes’s Chunky
- Omaha Steak’s Chunky
- Fat Boy Cookie Company Outrageous Chunk
- Whole Foods Chip
GOOD – no fresh-baked impression, closer to packaged cookies
- David’s Performed Chunk
- Pillsbury Ready to Bake with Hershey Chips
- Nestle Toll House Chocolate Chip Cookies
Have you tried any of these? Which is your favorite?

I’m excited to know this! It is easy enough to bake one or two cookies at a time (especially if the cookies are packaged in squares) and to sit down to a mid-afternoon cup of coffee with a hot, fresh cookie……yum!
I haven’t tried any of the cookies under the “very good” category, but will be doing so in the near future. Thanks for this info.
