Who wouldn’t want the best chocolates? I mean, sometimes having just a little bit of REALLY good chocolate is more satisfying than having a lot of the average stuff. And when you feel more satisfied with less, you just might save a few calories. So if you want to indulge a little this Valentine’s Day (or indulge your sweetie), how about going for the cream of the crop… or cocoa bean.
According to Consumer Reports (CR), the best super-premium chocolates ($24 or more per pound) are extremely fresh, smooth, and use top-notch fillings. They’re nothing like their cheaper competitors (less than $10 a box) which tend to use artificial flavors and have a dry, gritty, or chalky texture.
CR rates the following chocolates as EXCELLENT:
- Candina’s
- John & Kira’s Every Flavor
- La Maison du Chocolat Coffret Maison dark and milk
- Martine’s Assortment du Jour Signature
- Fran’s Assorted Truffles Collection
- Nonnie Waller’s Traditional Southern Treasure Chest Truffles Potpourri
- Norman Love Confections
- Woodhouse Chocolate Assortment
- Jacques Torres Jacques’ Choice
In CR’s VERY GOOD category:
- MarieBelle Blue & Brown Box
- Moonstruck Truffle Classic Collections
- Charles Chocolates Deluxe Assortment
- Theo Organic Fair Trade Confections
- Godiva Gold Ballotin
- Leonidas Chocolate General Assortment
- See’s Famous Old Time Assorted
And overall, the chocolates that made CR’s BEST BUY list:
- Candina’s
- Godiva Gold Ballotin
- Leonidas Chocolate General Assortment
- See’s Famous Old Time Assorted
I have to admit, I’ve never even heard of some of these… and I consider myself a chocolate connoisseur, or at least a chocoholic. Guess I’ve got a lot more tasting to do. ![]()
What do you think of these chocolates? Which ones do you like?
