Six weeks of booty-kicking workouts and what do I have to show for it? Monday night, we got weighed, measured, and timed to see how our fitness compares to when we first started the FitWit Boot Camp. Overall, I’m pleased with my results.
I gained a couple of pounds, which was expected, since we’ve been building muscle… but unfortunately, my body fat stayed the same. I blame it on my splurge on sweets in San Francisco last week. (Or was it all those Dove ice cream bars last month???) Seriously, though, my diet could use a little tweaking.
But I got lots of good news. I lost an inch in my hips and two inches in my waist. Fitness-wise (most important, IMO), my one-mile run time improved by more than two minutes – yay! And I can now do 34 pushups in one minute compared to 26 when I started; 36 situps instead of 30; and 45 squats instead of 27. Sweet.
This is Joel, a personal trainer and one of our camp leaders. He set some new goals for me as we get started with our second six-week camp. Yes, my husband and I are back for round two!
Oh, and something cool I’ve been meaning to tell you about this program – as you’re getting in shape, you’re also giving back to the community. Some of the money for the classes goes to The FitWit Foundation, a non-profit group that offers free fitness, tutoring and summer camp programs for low-income young people in our neighborhoods. So you can really feel good about your workouts. Now, if I could just do something about that sweet tooth…

Congratulations on completing the Boot Camp AND signing up for more! Still looks a bit intimidating for me.
Like you said, it’s not just about losing weight, but having a healthy fit body.
congrats! (2 minutes off your mile time? that is awesome!)
I’m glad to hear you signed up for more FUN!
cathys997 – yes, the fitness part is the most important to me
workoutmommy – uhh… I’m not a runner (i.e. I run SLOWLY) so trimming two minutes doesn’t mean I’m running at lightning speed or anything!
Fantastic news! Boot Camp is all about the results! Congratulations!
DAAAAAAAANG.
an inch in hips and two in waist.
GO YOU.
please come here.
my motivation is missing…as well as my sleep (thanks Toddler!)
Miz.
What a great program you have! I think having a personal trainer as a camp leader is a great idea.
I run daily, and always look forward to it, EXCEPT when I travel…and I was on the road all last week. Now that I’ve gotten out of my routine, I’m finding it VERY hard today to get motivated to go for my daily run. It would be nice to have a trainer around to kick my booty into gear!
If nothing else, just having the support of the other program participants sound like a great motivator.
I’m curious, do you also include hand weights or free weights with your workout?
Rebecca
Congrats on your success & dedication! Boot camp is always a great way to stay motivated & see fantastic results.
But don’t lose the sweet tooth – we all need balance!
Cari
That is so awesome! Good for you for doing that (and going back for Rount 2)!
Way to go! 2 inches in the waist and 1 in the hips is really awesome! Stay away from the sweets
Woo-hooo! That’s fantastic! Always good news on the inches lost. I try not to focus on the numbers on the scale too much either. I need a boot camp trainer here!
Rebecca – it’s definitely tough when you travel and get out of your routine! As far as weights, we have used kettlebells and body bars in some of the classes.
ladyjay – you know how I am about sweets – I will never give them up!
