Young children exercise a lot – an average of three hours a day when they’re nine years-old, says a new study in the Journal of the American Medical Association. But by the time they’re 15, their daily physical activity is down to just 49 minutes on weekdays and about a half-hour on weekends.

I’ve seen first hand the inactivity of teens. My son’s priority is to text on his phone or chat on his computer. His father and I have required him to do a sport or activity in order for him to keep getting his allowance. So he has chosen martial arts. We also set limits on his computer chatting. He is off the computer by 11 p.m. in the summer.
