I feel like the the bearer of bad news this week after just telling you about the American Academy of Pediatrics recommending some children as young as eight take cholesterol lowering drugs. Now a new study from the University of Michigan says with so many overweight and obese children, there will soon be a dramatic increase in the number of younger adults with type 2 diabetes. This, of course also means there will be more serious complications – like kidney disease and heart problems – that come with the disease, which researchers say will ultimately lead to shorter life spans.

I am with you on this epidemic. That is why I scour the net for news I can share with the readers of my website at http://www.free-symptoms-of-diabetes-alert.com (If you want to visit, just click but if it doesn’t work, copy and paste it onto your browser.) so everyone could get the latest on diabetes and hopefully be able to adjust their self-care management program accordingly.
Yes, it’s sad but true; this generation of children are likely to have a shorter lifespan than previous generations. This is the first time this has happened in American history. We can blame our diets (high in sugars and unhealthy fats and pre-packaged foods) and our lifestyle (not enough physical activity). I tell this to my workshop attendees all the time and they are always floored by this frightening statistic!
Parents need to start read food labels and eliminate refined sugars and artificial sweeteners from their family’s diet (sugar, corn syrup, aspartame, saccharin, etc.). People need to eat more whole foods (fruits, vegetable, nuts, seeds, grains and greens) and eat less of those convenince foods that are full of sugars, sweeteners, animal fats, trans fats, sodium and chemical additives and ingredients. Anyone who eats “fast food” like Burger King or McDonald’s, even just once per week is consuming excess salt and trans fats as well as genetically modified ingredients. Yikes, no wonder children have high cholesterol and diabetes! We are, regrettably, a “Fast Food Nation”. Sigh……
