Four food manufacturers have agreed to reduce the levels of a cancer-causing chemical in their potato chips and french fries and pay $3 million in fines under a new settlement. California sued H.J. Heinz Co., Frito-Lay, Kettle Foods Inc., and Lance Inc. in 2005, alleging they violated a state requirement that companies post warning labels on products with carcinogens.

i lovelovelove fries but hardly ever indulge -to east to overdo it. But it certainly helps deter me when I hear they might cause cancer in addition to cellulite!
Here’s an idea…. instead of reducing the amount of cancer-causing chemical ingredients… how about completely ELIMINTATING them? And instead of a $3M fine, how about a $3M campaign to educate consumers and let them know about the carcinogens in the food? Only when we have full disclosure from manufacturers, can we, as consumers, make responsible and fully concious choices!
I’m with you completely on this one, Kathleen. Full disclosure is definitely in order. There are so many people who have no idea and that’s not right.
