Over here, you got to read Tosca Reno’s thoughts on preservatives in our foods and why she says Clean Eating is the way to go. Now you can win her new book, The Eat-Clean Diet for Family & Kids - it’s filled with information on how to make the transition to Eating Clean, how to do it on a budget, and oh yes – it has lots of family-friendly recipes including this one for Protein Smoothie Popsicles.
The book’s publisher is giving away three copies to FFTV members this week. To enter, head down to the comments and tell me something you used to eat that has preservatives or added sugar in it… and what you now eat instead that doesn’t have all that stuff. For example, one thing I’ve done is switched from the flavored yogurts with sweeteners to plain yogurt that I top with some slivered almonds and a little honey.
A few contest details: It ends at midnight EST this Friday, August 29… you have to have a U.S. mailing address to enter… and a random number generator will pick the winners.
Thanks, Tosca!

I always get whole wheat bread; however, when it came to purchasing hamburger buns, I used to drop the ball and not pay attention as much. So I’m sure there was some white flour, etc in there. Now I am more aware and make sure I purchase whole wheat/organic hamburger rolls as well.
Random number generator…please pick me!!! This sounds like a great book!
“Protein Smoothie Popsicles?” That one looks tasty. Looks like a great read!
You know I want this cookbook! We’ve done a lot this summer to clean up our diet. We’re still working on reducing sugar but making good progress! I’ll agree with the other commenter on hamburger buns. Typical ones are filled with sugar – HFCS at that. We’ve switched to Rudi’s brand, which is a wheat, HFCS free bun and is really good!
I have swapped out white bread for multi-grain bread…and it makes a huge difference! We are all in “eating clean” transition and I would love to win this book!
I have made so many changes in our eating habits it is hard to come up with one favorite. As like everyone else has paosted we chnaged from white brad to whole grain bread, wheat pasta instead of white pasta. Instead of giving my children soda which they adore I now make them smoothies made with bannanas, fresh fruit, plain yogurt. We feel so much better eating healthier.
ummmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm.
eggbeaters and more egg whites?
this is such an area I need to work on so Id love the book
We have changed a lot of the way we eat. We have half and half bread. We eat a lot of veg which I hide by making yummy soups the kids will eat. I also hide grated carrot in bolognese. We also try veggie meals at times.
Try lettuce rollups (ham, cheese spread, salad in a lettuce leaf), instead of sandwiches.
Also snack on a stick(fruit or salad and meat on a pretzel stick.
my family could definitely use this book.
)
(and a cook too, do you have one of those to giveaway?
I used to buy just regular popsicles until I discovered Edy’s fruit bars. Much less sugar and much better for all of us.
Wow – lots of great changes, so far. Uhhh… workout mommy, sorry – no cook!
I started making my own salad dressing. You can control what’s in it when you make it on your own.
I make my own smoothies and I scan ingredients to stay away from corn syrup in juices.
The cookbook looks like it would help with things I’ve never thought about.
Yeah! We have Tosca’s other book, “The Eat-Clean Diet” and have found some great recipes we love in there. Here are a few of our changes: sugar to agave nectar; granola bars to regular Quaker oats (oatmeal); regular peanut butter to raw nut butters; and we use unsweetened applesauce or pumpkin in place of oil when we bake. I’d love to check out her newest book!
I noticed that regular applesauce has high fructose corn syrup in it so I switched to natural applesauce which eliminates that stuff and still tastes delicious!
I used to eat regular crunchy peanut butter ( I was addicted– could eat a small jar by myself in less than a week!!) I had spoonfuls all day long. About a year ago, I found that, not only is natural peanut butter better for me (no partially hydrogenated oils/extra sugars), but it’s pretty tasty, too!!! Oh, I’m saving $ too because the natural kind is so sticky, I only want a spoon a day– okay, sometimes 2!
I use to drink Cyrstal Light like it was water (ha ha). Then I realized it has Aspartame in it. Totally screws up my entire system (thyroid, hormones, acne etc). Now I drink just plain water with lemon or lime.
I used to eat processed “less sugar” instant oatmeal packets. These things were full of artificial sweetener, high fructose corn syrup, and preservatives- yuck! Now I make my own oatmeal from organic rolled oats, a little Stevia or agave, and lots of fruit- it is much more delicious and filling this way!
Inow use agve nectar or sucanat instead of other sweeteners, I make my own whole grain bread instead of buying it. I eat plain fat free yogurt with fruit in it instead of the others, I eat a lot more organic fresh veggies instead of the conventioanlly grown,
I’m a recovering Honeycomb addict – even today, the smell of it can drive me completely over the edge.
Instead I’m eating Oatmeal with some agave nectar, blueberries and walnuts in the morning. It’s been quite the change, but well worth it. I’m generally not hungry until noon!
I buy alot of fresh fruit ever it is available.
I eat what I can while it is fresh and freeze the rest. Then I always have good fruit that is not loaded with chemicals to use in yogurt, or on cottage cheese, or to cook with. Raisins are a great sweetener for my oatmeal.
Here’s to your great healthy diet,
Gramma Shoofly
I used to eat Capn Crunch Cereal, but have now switched to the Kashi line
I love ketchup on eggs and on sweet potato fries. We switched to all natural ketchup. OMG-what a difference. We can’t go back.
Well I have changed many things instead of using sour cream I use nonfat yogurt, 100% wheat bread instead of white, eggwhite no yolk. I even started to make my girls fresh chicken nuggetts. I would love this book to learn more and really change the way we eat.
I have switched to all whole grains foods such as brown rice, oatmeal, quinoa, wild rice, yams, ezekiel bread and buns and corn tortillas made with no preservatives. It has made a huge difference in how staisfying a meal or snack is! I would love love love to win this book!

I don’t know of one mother that doesn’t want to do the right thing for her family. Health is everything! This book sounds great. Any inspiration or hands-on ideas that we can take away would be wonderful. I also agree that even ONE small change can do some good. I’m glad I found your link! I hope others do as well.
DoTheRightThing – Glad we agree about making those small changes. Thanks so much for stopping by!
I always used to eat oatmeal (the flavored kinds) thinking it was good for me, until I saw how much extra sugar, etc was in it. I now eat musseli with flaxseed and fresh berries
emilybro14 – I love flaxseed! I have just recently started adding it to smoothies and my protein pancakes.
