Say it isn’t so… it seems the French can get fat, afterall. As childhood obesity goes up in France, the myth is fading that French people can eat anything and stay thin. So the government is fighting back – it’s considering an increase in sales taxes on extra-fatty, salty or sugary products.

I lived in Nancy, France for a few months while studding cranio-facial surgery at their large regional hospital! It was quite common to see people walking to work in the mornings with a loaf of wonderful baguette under their arm. There was one McDonald’s in the city and no other fast food places. The older folks used to talk about how they did not like seeing the changes in their culture with regards to food and time. I’d hate to see it today
Ironic…the french fry is now a culinary enemy in the country of its namesake.
Hey, if the Francos are getting fat…their socialist government says, our coffers might as well fill-out a little too…especially since food is now as cheap as any time in history (unless you factor in the cost of long-term health care to unit price of food)
