I know, workout mommy - people are so not informed. This is so important and I am amazed by what these women are doing. Thanks for passing it along!

I love this. Another mom also called me a food nazi b/c I don't give my kids poptarts for breakfast. Grrr....why can't more people be informed? I am going to pass this along to my mom-friends because something needs to be done! Thanks!

That is sad, Cathy. At least the changes are being made, even though they're happening slowly.

I have to admit that my Jr. year in H.S. (maybe Sr. year as well) I had french fries and ice cream every day for lunch at school. But, my mom made me a sit down breakfast before school and a wonderful supper every night. I'm not saying it was good for me, but I was slim and trim until college.

I agree with these moms and I've heard reports that in schools where they take out the junk food and feed the kids nutritionally, test scores have gone up and those kids affected with ADD have calmed down. I believe that nutrition has a lot of effect on kids in the classroom and their behavior.

I do think that if schools aren't going to provide nutritious lunches then the parents can make lunches and send them to school with their kids. At least in elementary school, it would work. By the time they get to Jr. high and high school, the kids (I guess) have to be able to make wise decisions....and moms, keep those other two meals of the day nutritious and balanced!

The media doesn't help with their relentless promotion of junk.....I could go on for many
pages. Standards should be set in the public schools towards a much healthier array of food options. Nice post!

Great post! I am so in awe of these women and completely agree with them. A group has recently formed here to try to reform the school lunches at one school. The schools are fairly apathetic, sadly. Changes are being made, but slowly. They say that they would like to serve healthier meals, but that it becomes cost prohibitive. How sad that our educational system can't afford to serve nutritious food to our children.

Fantastic! This is a problem in most first world countries, and nobody seems to understand how obesity is affecting the quality of life of everyone. And quite right - it starts with our children, and if we don't do something about it, who will? It really is a disease!

This is one of the reasons we are seriously considering homeschooling. The responsibility
to guide our children gently but definitely in a healthy and wholesome direction, not only physically but also intellectually, emotionally and spiritually, is something no parent should abdicate. No small undertaking though...

If only more people were as health conscious for our children as you are - we sometimes feel like a lone voice in a thunderstorm. Thanks for your efforts!
