My jaw is still in the dropped position. I just saw that PETA wants Ben & Jerry’s to get milk for its ice cream from breast milk (as in nursing moms) instead of cows. Ummm… what???! Breast milk in Ben & Jerry’s???
Yes, People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals wrote the ice cream guys a letter asking them to make the switch because cow’s milk can cause health problems in us humans and the trade off would also reduce the suffering of cows and calves.
PETA says, “Because, like all mammals, cows only give milk during or after pregnancy, in order for humans to constantly milk them, they are forcefully impregnated every nine months. Many live in filthy conditions and are forced to give 10 times more milk than they would naturally. It’s truly an awful life.”
Apparently, PETA came up with the idea when the group heard that a restaurant in Switzerland has a new menu that includes soups, stews, and sauces made with at least 75 percent human breast milk.
Okay, I get the animal rights thing… and if you don’t want to drink cow’s milk, that’s fine, too. But seriously – breast milk? How would you get that much breast milk? How is that Swiss restaurant going about this?
Back to the PETA/Ben & Jerry’s issue…
Ben & Jerry’s response: “We applaud PETA’s novel approach to bringing attention to an issue, but we believe a mother’s milk is best used for her child.”
PETA’s response to the response: “Hey, guys, that’s our point: Cow’s milk is for baby cows.”
Ahhh. Now I get it – this is just PETA’s way to bring attention to the issue! I think it’s working.

I saw that too.
and threw up a little in my mouth.
Logically, it would probably be healthier to eat ice cream made from human milk rather than cow milk.
However, eeeewwwwwww!!!
Seriously
eeeewwwwwww!!!
Perhaps this is what PETA has in mind

um…what about the women who would have to sit there for hours and hours at a time, having their breasts pumped, just to create a single scoop? It’s insane.
I saw that…..pretty crazy…what next?
Yes, Miz – I did a little of the same.
And ewww is right, DR!
I’d love to hear their proposal on HOW to implement this? Craziness!
um ewwww!
There are other ways to get around using cows milk. Breast milk? Pahleese
Okay, I am glad that is not for real and that it’s just a way for PETA to bring attention to the matter. I’ve read before that humans are the only mammal that drink milk beyond infancy and that is not really something we need to do.
I don’t drink milk and I’ve always wondered who was the first individual to see a cow and decide to drink the milk from them. I mean we dont’t try the milk from dogs or cats (at least that I know of). It doesn’t make sense to me that we drink cow milk or goat milk even though we do. I can’t see myself drinking breast milk past the age of 1. Humans are just like other mammals so why can’t we act like it and find our calcium somewhere else. Even when cows grow up, you don’t see them still milking.
I might consider the human breast milk alternative. But I would have to insist on silicone free milk.
Does human milk have to be pasteurized?
Luv
COME ON PEOPLE…WHO ON EARTH WOULD EAT THIS??? I THINK THEY NEED TO FIND ANOTHER TOPIC TO GET ATTENTION!
I wonder if people would even know it was breast milk if it wasn’t advertised as such. We come up with fake everything else for our diet, I’m sure someday there will be fake milk added to our dairy products too!
The power of enculturation!
Well, if I had any appetite for ice cream tonight, that all just went out the window!!! I can’t believe it…my thought is, what can they transmit by using human breast milk??
