I’ve written about energy drinks a couple of times already here at FFTV. You can see the results of a Consumer Reports test on 12 of these caffeine-filled beverages over here. And just last month, I mentioned a new study that finds just one can of Red Bull may increase the risk of heart damage. Now, researchers at Johns Hopkins University say some energy drinks are so packed with caffeine they should carry prominent warning labels. Their study found some energy drinks had up to 14 times the caffeine as a can of cola, or the same as seven cups of strong coffee. Yikes! I agree they should come with warnings. What do you think?

I think they should have a warning label. I drank one once, and had the shakes for hours. So now I stay away! If I am looking for a pick me up, I’ll have a juice, or coffee. I know what I getting myself in for with those.
If there are valid health concerns, then YES, they should carry a warning. Hubby drinks a Monster every night on his way to work. He works 11 pm-7:30 am. I tell him how awful they are but maybe I should direct him to this!
Those “energy” drinks are bad all around; no nutritional value. Essentially, they are water, caffeine and sugar. The mix of these two ingredients is what keeps people hooked. It’s not a sustaining type of energy that you get from eating whole foods. It’s just another (unhealthy) shortcut; an unfortunate staple of the Standard American Diet (a.k.a. SAD).
those drinks have NO IMPACT on me.
Ive always wanted to volunteer to be a science experiment so I could find out why…physiology?
cant get a caffeine buzz really either.
(much to my chagrin
)
Seriously? No effect, Miz? We are opposites – I get a buzz off just a sip of anything with caffeine in it!
I totally laid off caffeine when I was pregnant with my first child and about a month away from delivery time, I decided to go ahead and have a couple (yes, 2) cokes with dinner. My baby woke up and moved like she had NEVER moved in the how many months that I had been pregnant. I KNOW caffeine has an effect….at least on her.
She is now 16 and loves the energy drinks (I think it’s the drink of choice among high schoolers). We don’t buy them, but about once a week one shows up in our fridge and she drinks it the next morning. I’m definitely going to show her this article.
Yes, ladyjay – you must show it to her. No more energy drinks for her!
Ugh. What am I supposed drink when I have exams?? It’s impossible to stay awake…even with energy drinks sometimes.
Sorry maker. I know it’s tough. I used to drink a lot of caffeinated beverages in college, too. Please be careful.
