It’s not just a condition for the middle-aged. Doctors across the country say they are seeing a big increase in children with kidney stones – sometimes the kids are as young as five or six. Some hospitals have even opened pediatric kidney stone clinics.
The reason? Experts say there are several factors including a rise in obesity and too much salt in kids’ diets.

I would like you to consider as a possible cause of the rise in kidney stones the Chinese imported candy and milk powder products containing melamine.

Ugh. People in my family seem prone to kidney stones, so that’s really scary news to me. I can’t imagine the fear that a child with a kidney stone would feel. Scary stuff!
Thanks for bringing that up, beresh – melamine was also mentioned as a problem for kids in China in the full article from the New york Times.
This really caught my eye. This is really scary.
