You won’t find moose on a menu because it is illegal to sell moose meat, at least in Alaska. We hunt moose and love it!
A ‘tag’ is a permit to hunt moose (aside from a hunter’s permit). It goes by lottery, so ‘pulling a moose tag’ would be a lucky winner in the lottery. In Alaska we call it a ‘draw’, hence ‘drawing a moose tag’. Cow moose are better eats than bull moose unless the bull moose is a young one. Cook it like beef: stews, roasts, grilled steaks, yummie!

I was raised on moose my whole life and there really is nothing better.It all depends on how its killed and the age and where it lived.If it lived in the swamps or hills that will change the taste.

I love moose meat! Its awesome fried with onions and a tiny drop of water to make a juice from it. yum!

I eat moose as my only source of red meat. One moose can easily yield 400 + lbs of good meat. The taste is very similar to beef, and tenderness varies from moose to moose. A large old moose can contain a lot of tough meat.

And by the way, the plural of moose, is moose.
I am actually eating a moose steak as I am typing this. mmmmm, moose

I’m married to a hunter and introduced to the world of “hunting for your own meat” when we met. I will try anything once and moose meat is good but not fantastic. I know this sounds awlful but it depends on what the moose eats in their diet. If the moose is eating items available in the forest then it tends to be a bit gamey, not my cup of tea but I appreciate the resources available to us and as long as we respect what nature gives us and we give back its all good!
