Ever since the first time we did kettlebell swings in my Boot Camp class this summer, I was hooked – it was something different and I really like the way you can use these weights for both strength training and cardio. Here’s a video that shows you how to do Kettlebell Swings. PreFit personal trainer, Chad Welday explains the technique… while I huff and puff my way through the workout.
Anyone else out there a kettlebell fan?

I love kettlebell swings.
They are a great total body exercise and a great warm-up as well.
I use them quite often as part of a HIIT workout (http://healthhabits.wordpress.com/2008/10/02/hiit-the-anaerobic-versionor-part-5-of-the-why-cant-i-lose-this-fat-saga/) or even during a Tabata workout.
Excellent!! I’ve yet to do kettlebell workouts. They are slowly showing up more and more at my fitness center.
I love my kettlebell, it really gives me a great workout! I wish there were classes closer to my house.
Sahar, loved the video on kettlebell swings. I have never seen that tool before! I bet it really works and strengthens the abdomen, too. I will look for classes that offer the kettlebell!
I’ve been wanting to try kettlebells FOREVER! I am so jealous you get to do this workout all the time! There has been some practitioners here in the Boston for a few years, but none at my own gym, so I’ve not been able to try it. My hairdresser is Russian and he says kettlebells have been used in Russia for a long time.
I also like “smart bells”. Are you familiar? They are curved disc weights used in cardio classes. My gym has those and I like the workout challenge they provide.
I am trying to find a kettlebell class. Or even a gym with kettlebells. I want to give them a try before I purchase some. Do you use lots of different weights during a workout? Or just 1?
I live in LA if anyone knows of a good class.
Thanks!
Joy
Hi Joy,
I usually use 10-15 pound kettlebells in my Boot Camp class, depending on the workout we’re doing. I hope you can find some to try – they are one of my favorite pieces of equipment (right now…)!
Hey Kathleen,
I have not heard of smart bells – they sound fun, though. I love trying new things so I don’t get bored!
Guess who did Kettlebell Swings at the gym yesterday? Moi! Two kettlebells mysteriously showed up in the strength training area of my gym. There are only two; a 10-lb and a 20-lb. I used the 10-lb one and really enjoyed the swings; you’re right, Sahar, it really did get my heartrate up!
Glad the kettlebells mysteriously showed up, Kathleen! And I’m glad you enjoyed the swings. Kettlebells are awesome, aren’t they? Love them!
Have you seen the new SandBell? It is like a cross between dumbbells, kettlebells, and sandbags. Whatever you can do with a kettlebell, you can do with the SandBell – except it is soft neoprene – so no worries when you swing it close to your body! There is a video on YouTube to watch it in action. I am sure we would all love to see your review of one.
A Sandbell? I have not heard of those, but they sound fabulous! I will check them out.
I love kettlebells! I have 10, 20 and 26lbs bells. I also have a timer which really made a difference when using the bell.
bodyproud – how do you use the timer? Sounds interesting…
Hey! I just stumbled on this blog and saw the trainer was wearing an Ohio State hat. Are you doing all this in Columbus? I am a trainer in central OH as well. I run a wellness center in Marysville and train at Premier at Sawmill.
Yes, I’m a big kettlebell fan and think swings are one of the best exercises for all round fitness and strength.
Also, what a fantastic looking site with superb content, well done!
Thanks
Rob
Thanks for stopping by, Rob! I will visit your site in a bit…
The sandbells are awesome. You can do much more with them than kettlebells. They were just written up in the Nov Muscle and Fitness mag. p. 62
DutchB1 – Thanks for the tip on the sandbells. I will have to check them out!
