More devastating effects of the obesity epidemic – A new study finds the arteries of obese children and teens can be just as clogged as those of a 45-year-old. When scientists from the University of Missouri Kansas City School of Medicine used ultrasound imaging to look at the neck arteries of obese kids, they found fatty deposits more typical in middle-aged adults – plaque build-up often linked to heart attacks or strokes.

I find it awful that parents allow their kids to get fat. When kids are young, it is the parent who controls their eating and what food is bought.
I’m amazed that this information isn’t enough for people to change their eating habits. If you don’t buy, you can’t eat it. Period.
I hope this story is widespread so every parent sees it.
Dr. Hubbard,
I’ve seen it on all the major news networks’ and newspapers’ websites, so hopefully the word is getting out! So sad.
The flip side is that if we can change the eating habits of children AND adults, then we can turn this around for everyone.
Unfortunately, many parents do what’s most convenient when it comes to feeding their children. Fast food is obviously the most convenient. In addition, they don’t want to spend time arguing with their kids when the kids are requesting the junky food. Hopefully, the more we continue to spread the news of these consequences, the more parents will try to change these habits. This is good information for new parents because they will have more control if they never even expose their children to fast food as they’re growing up.
So true, Sheri – new parents can get off on the right foot. It’s much easier if their kids are not exposed to the junk.
