Philadelphia joins California and New York City in making it easier to find out how many calories you’re getting when you eat out. The Philadelphia City Council passed a measure Thursday that requires restaurants to post calories on their menus. Starting on January 1, 2010, chain restaurants with more than 15 locations will have to put the calorie counts on menu boards and put calories, saturated and trans fat, sodium and carbohydrates on printed menus.
What do you think of the idea? Should all cities do the same?

I think it is a great idea, and it should be required for restaurants. If you don’t want to know the calories, then that’s your choice to not look or ignore.
But there are so many of us that really might eat out more if we knew there were ‘safe’ places to eat LOL! Or at least be able to plan certain meals in.
I agree with Lori. They should be posted. I get frustrated when I can’t find the nutrition facts (in store or online) when I go out. It would be nice to know what’s going in!
Good point, Lori – people who don’t want to know can just ignore the calories. But yeah, I would like to know what I’m getting into and decide if it’s worth it.
Lets pass this around the country as well!
I think it’s a great idea. I’m kind of glad that it does not affect all restaurants because I don’t know if some of my favorite family-owned restaurants would be able to add that to the menu. I mean I know I run the risk of hundreds of calories at some of these places so I wouldn’t want it to hurt them.
This is what I’d like to see worldwide!
I can’t put anything in my mouth now without knowing what’s in it.
It’s a good job that my favorite place to eat is right here at home with my wife, she’s a top cook!
Take care,
Andrew
