Researchers say it’s a major step forward in understanding how the human body regulates weight – they have found six new gene mutations linked to obesity that point to how the brain and nervous system control eating and metabolism. Most of the new genes seem to cause people who carry them to eat more, instead of affect how their body processes fat. This could help scientists develop new ways to turn off impulses in the brain that make some people overeat. The study is in the journal Nature Genetics.

Thanks for the post. As someone who has always struggled to maintain ideal weight and comes from a family of obese women, this is certainly good news. I, for one, will be waiting for the day when they finally discover how to turn off that impulse that makes me overeat.
Maudrey – it’s so interesting that they found 6 different genes, isn’t it? I look forward to more information from this research.
