If you like to walk to get your exercise, you may need to pick up the pace. New research shows you should take 100 steps per minute to get a moderate-intensity workout. A pedometer can of course keep track of how many steps you take but it doesn’t monitor how hard you exercise. Researchers suggest you first try to reach 1,000 steps in 10 minutes then build up to 3,000 steps in 30 minutes and do this five times a week.
I may have to try this mainly because I’m curious now! Anybody out there ever counted your steps when you walk?

Nope, never have, never will. I go for distances instead (like my beloved 2.4 mile circle walk with the mooses).
However, I *will* count pushups. And pullups.
I saw this, and it can’t hurt. They are just trying to quantify moderate exercise. I live in the intense zone, or at least I have that intension
I saw this on a restaurant tv today as walking 1000 steps every 10 minutes. Same thing, except I thought they were saying we had to walk 1000 steps EVERY 10 minutes. LOL I wondered where sleep fit in. Should I just hit the snooze alarm all night long?
Finally, I caught the clue bus. Can’t wait to count my steps tomorrow!
I wear my pedometer when I walk. This morning I tracked how many steps I had hit by 30 minutes and it was around 3700. I walk with music that helps me stay around 3.5 -4 miles an hour. Music really helps keep the pace
I get a great workout in with just walking but I have been trying to kick it up some of the days with short bursts of jogging too. My pedometer also tracks distance and calories burned. It factors in your weight and stride length for accuracy! I Love my pedometer….it’s an Omron Walking Style. I am going to blog today about walking
Barbara – What mooses?
Dr. J – Yes, I think it helps because a lot of times when they recommend “moderate exercise,” etc. I don’t know that people really know what they mean.
Cammy – I am cracking up! Glad you are no longer confused.
Annette – 3700 steps in 30 minutes – great pace! I counted mine yesterday but now I can’t remember what they were!!!!! But it was over the recommendation….
