I saw this the other day and I just don’t get it. This is what they’ll be selling this year in Grand Rapids at the West Michigan Whitecaps minor league baseball games.
It’s a 4-pound burger with five beef patties, five slices of cheese, nearly a cup of chili, plus salsa and lots of corn chips, on an 8-inch sesame-seed bun. It comes to 4,800 calories.
Apparently… anyone who eats the entire thing in one sitting gets a special T-shirt. I just don’t understand the lure. Why??? Anyone?

well, you know 4,8000 calories just doesn’t go as far as it used to
Here I am fretting over the Whopper Jr. with cheese (but no mayo) that I have 2-3 times a YEAR and then I see something like this. I don’t see the allure. It doesn’t even look good. Well, except for maybe one of those corn chips sliding off the side.
I’m thinking the t-shirt you get = XXL as the only size they have! If that’s not the size you wear, it probably will be pretty soon after a couple of meals like this…
I’d rather just buy the t-shirt!
Sure…it’s called voyeurism!
Because Baseball is America’s game!! Oh, there is something else is the picture?
Batter up! And I don’t mean pancake batter
cammy – LOL about the corn chips…
Lance – And would they really be proud to wear the t-shirt? I just don’t get it!
Dr. J – Maybe they can have a really enormous apple pie for dessert – a 10-pounder!
[...] TV asks why. A ball park in Grand Rapids, Michigan created the largest hamburger in all the land. Take a look. It will ruin your appetite. You’re [...]
This is a burger for Michael Phelps, after a nice bong hit.
Stiletto – I am cracking up!
i live in grand rapids. Yes the burger looks big and un-healthy but what these stories fail to share is that the ball park created it for a family of 4-5. it come precut in portion sizes for the family to split it up.
if you look at it that way it makes it fun to eat and its not as bad as it looks
Even if you split that between 4 people, it’s still 1200 calories. Between 5 people – 960 calories. WAY too much still!
as many calories as it is, ill probably eat it in a week or so, seems well worth it?
They’re doing this 1. so they can get money, 2. so people can challenge themselves, and 3. because they flatout want to.
If you think it’s a bad idea then don’t buy it.
It’s as simple as that.
If people want to kill themselves slowly through obesity, then who are we to stop them?
This is coming from a slightly fat person by the way, not some ultra skinny hollywood chick that thinks fat people are absolutely disgusting.
Sick Americans, you have the world’s most obese people in th world
hey how much does that thing cost, cuz seriously i weigh like 95 pounds so if i bought one of those it would be like dinner for a year, then i wouldn’t have to deal with my moms cooking, America is such an overweight country, soon we’ll be like fat rolly pollys
Just go vegetarian….it’s not as hard as people think, and you look, and feel much better. Americans have this obsession with protein. We eat WAY too much protein. And you can get sufficient protein from beans, nuts, soy and even vegetables. Hey, you can still eat dairy too if you are vegetarian and not vegan. It’s better for the planet too, not to mention better for the animals who have to go through a horrific slaughter. PLUS, low risk of salmonella, e-coli and the like! Italians (in ITALY) have a primarily vegetarian diet, as do people in some Asian countries. You can eat reallly delicious food and be vegetarian! Hummus, Grape Leaves, Spaghetti, Gnocchi, Minestrone, Polenta, not to mention the plethora of fruits, vegetables and cheeses are all non-meat foods that are yummy!
This would feed my family of 3 for at least 2 days if I allowed my family to eat like this. I don’t. Childhood obesity is not something I would want my daughter to ever go through.
How about you all SHUT THE HECK UP! There are WAY too many folks on this planet who are convinced that THEIR opinion is the best one and if ONLY they could get us all to listen we would be better off….please. Look, if can’t stand to look at this or think about eating this..then DON’T!!! Get OVER yourselves ya pansies. Oh, and if I die happy at 50, then I consider it a MUCH better fate then dying miserable at 90.
it’s probably delicious
I’ll take two !!!
A little bit more activity away from the PS, Nitendo, Computer and eating this much wouldn’t be so bad. I’m 51, 6ft 2in, 185. I’ve been that way since I was 28 and put on 30 pounds to get up from 155. I had to eat 5 times a day to gain weight. Perhaps the fact that I spent 30 min to 60 min working out with weights, ran 2 – 5 miles 5 days a week and rode a bike 4 miles to and from work had something to do with it. When I was young it was considered nothing to ride 5 mile on a single speed bike to see friends might even go to several friends houses for 15 to 20 mile a day just to play/hang out. Now my son ask me to drive him 1 mile to visit a friend because he doesn’t want to walk or ride. Childhood obesity is not all caused by eating. Some of it is caused by activity lifestyle. Choose what you want and need to eat and don’t think everyone has your problem with weight. I have always needed massive calories to keep from losing weight. If you don’t want to eat it don’t. Others might truely enjoy it for fun. I think it sounds kind of good but I would take off the chips. Like the chily though.
That was the the most entertaining post read I have had in long time! Thank you people! Now if I could just get you all as excited about Global Warming or pollution, we’d be set!
But Agree … That is a meal for Micheal Phelps after a bong hit! lol!
I say get rid of the chili, corn chips, and salsa and add a pound of bacon and a bunch of portabella mushroom and then where talking an American Burger!!!!!!!!
djudge77 – Those were the days, huh? We were so much more active!
I’m honestly not telling people NOT to eat it, I just think it’s important to be aware of the calories, etc., then make your own decision about what you want to do.
Mely Melt – Glad you were entertained.
Thanks so much for stopping by!
gollum – portabella mushrooms, huh? Interesting…
[...] So I read this article: Ummm… Why??? [...]
Well this is somethign I would eat, well because I’m actually trying to gain weight.
There is places out there to speed up metab. and lose pounds and etc, but how in the hell are you suppose to slow down a metab and gain weight?
How ’bout everybody get the f**c off your high horses. It’s a gimmick; if you don’t like it..don’t eat it. Stop with the condescending health lectures. Anyone who eats it knows it’s unhealthy; but they do it anyway because you only live once. It’s better than wasting your life worrying about every little stupid thing.
I am one of the people everyone hates because i stay skinny no matter what i eat. But to the guy that said i’d eat this because im trying to gain weight is kinda ignorant. You should eat good proteins like peanut butter, eggs, steak, fish, chicken, milk ect. to gain weight.. But, i would eat this burger for fun. It looks plenty good to me. You can get a 72. oz steak here in my town(free if you eat it with a meal).. And it is just a gimmick, dont eat it. No need to hate on it.
