She tried everything from diets to having her stomach stapled. Now Carol Poe has had deep brain stimulation to help her lose weight. Poe is part of a study at West Virginia University hospital where neurosurgeons drilled into her brain and used electricity to control her feelings of hunger and satisfaction. She is the second person in the U.S. to have this done.
It will be interesting to see the results of this study!

The results will be interesting. So will the ethical considerations. It is voluntary brain manipulation. It has been tried in the past on things such as criminal behavior, but stopped due to ethical concerns.
I’m not sure how I feel about this. It’s difficult to think about it without running it through my own filter of experience.

I’m looking at it as just one isolated case where they, for some reason, believe desperate times call for desperate measures. I do not expect this to become the next botox.
