The maker of Cheerios got a warning letter from the Food and Drug Administration. The FDA says General Mills has made inappropriate claims about how the popular cereal can lower cholesterol and treat heart disease. General Mills says the health claims on Cheerios have been approved for 12 years and the FDA’s complaints are about how the language appears on the box, not the cereal itself.

I’m afraid I need to defer to Andy Rooney’s statement about mail when it comes to claims on packages. He said, “The more important it says it is on the outside of the envelope (package), the less important it is on the inside!
What always makes me laugh when I see the commercials for Cheerios (and most other cereals, to be fair) is that the amount of cereal in the bowl is about a week’s worth of cereal, not a single serving. If I could eat that much cereal at once, I’d be cheery, too!
