The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) just launched LEANWorks! - a website designed to help businesses fight obesity. LEAN stands for Leading Employees to Activity and Nutrition.
The site was developed especially for small and mid-size companies because they usually have more limited resources to use to prevent obesity.
LEANWorks! can help businesses calculate how much obesity is costing them and how much they could save with different workplace interventions like fitness classes, lunchtime health education sessions, and weight management programs.
I hope LEANWorks! works.

Would they feed you during those “lunchtime health education sessions”? If not, I can see people grabbing a cheeseburger, fries, and soda at the cafeteria before they head into the session.
Doesn’t it seem a bit “big-brotherish” to have your empoyer involved in your health decisions/lifestyle?
It totally creeps me out.
I like this idea. Bringing about awareness is the first step.
I think it’s a great idea! In fact, we have a health screening at work once a year – all confidential – and participation in it also means lower premiums for health insurance. While you could say that we’re being forced to do this – the simple truth is that it’s a shot at finding that person who is borderline something – and could lead to saved lives, saved time, and saved costs. We also have a retired doctor that visits twice a month – and this has been so well received. So I think programs like these ARE good – while for a healthy and fit person – it might not do much – if it leads to one life being saved, to one life even with a better quality of life – it’s worth it…
K – Not sure, but it sounds like the employees would have a choice…
Lance – that’s awesome that you have those screenings at work and a retired doc that visits twice a month. So convenient – I would definitely take advantage.
Yum Yucky – LOL – hopefully, the sessions include a healthy lunch.
