Here’s a great way a produce truck is Making a Healthy Difference in a Detroit community. According to the story on MSNBC, the neighborhood has 26 liquor stores but only one grocery store, so a community group is peddling fresh fruits and vegetables like ice cream. Five days a week, the Peaches & Greens truck goes up and down the streets, bringing affordable produce to those who can’t make it to grocery chains in the suburbs. Great idea, huh?

I want a Peaches and Greens truck in our neighborhood! Love that!
I remember when I was a kid, we had a local veggie peddler that came around with his truck twice a week. I’m glad to see this in Detroit. In the suburbs of Detroit, we are blessed with many really wonderful produce markets, but in the city, it truly is a missing factor. It’s hard to expect families to teach their children about nutrition when they don’t have access to fresh fruits and veggies.
What I like even more, they’re actually using vacant lots in the city to start community farms to supply the trucks. It’s a great way to get people in the community involved in the growing process and in taking control of their own circumstances.
Love that idea! I wish I had one of those.
Serious about the number of liquor stores? Jeez.
girliefriend – Very cool about using vacant lots to start community farms – love that idea.
BTW, is lowcarbscoop.com your forum/website?
@ FatFighter…
I don’t own lowcarbscoop.com, but I do moderate it. I was instrumental in starting the Rebels Without A Carb section of the forum.
I know! I love the idea, too!
Sagan – I know! It is a lot of liquor stores, huh?
