I try to engage in active vacation activities: hiking cool parks, kayaking, rock climbing, etc. That way I don’t feel like I’m losing time by working out and, most the times, it doesn’t even feel like I’m working out!
When we go away we make sure we stay at places that have their own kitchens sowe can make our meals for the most part and then we ask around for places to eat that offer healthy meal options and will go out 1 or 2 nights.
The exercise is usally built in with lots of walking and sight seeing.
Love Fitness magazine! When hubby and I travel to Jamaica, we like to try to do as much exercise as possible because we tend to overeat LOL Everything from snorkeling, walking, swimming to tennis keeps us moving.
Walk walk walk. Carrying a 30 lb weight on my back. Gotta love babywearing for the extra calorie burn
I try to go on long walks and keep most of my meals light when I’m on vacation. And then we typically eat a week of salads when we get back from vacation to atone for our overeating sins!
Walk a lot, and take the stairs when we can. And drink extra water.
I make sure I pack little bags of healthy snacks, like almonds or raisins, so that when I have cravings I don’t have to turn to fast food!
When traveling I take snack bars and dry cereal as well as cups of fruit…saving me money for urges to eat out when I am really bored or tired. If its a long trip I will carry some dry meals to heat up or open like canned soup.
I bring healthy snacks, and breakfast bars for me.
I try to visit the exercise room in the hotel when traveling.
I try to walk to as many activities as possible and try to remember to stick to the low fat choises on menus – but I do allow my self one indulgence on a vacation – I allow myself to order ice cream while away!
I always research gyms when I pick hotels, and if they don’t have one, I downloaded some exercises from the internet that you can do in your hotel room. Also, I never shy away from the opportunity to WALK to my next destination!
I try to find places where I can walk or hike.
to stay fit on travel, I walk the city instead of taking a bus or taxis. I also eat better.
I wake up early to sneak in a bit of exercise before the rest of my family is awake. That way I don’t miss out on any of the activities with them. We also try to plan fitness related activities in the day, such as walking around the city, hiking, renting bikes, etc.
Instead of stopping at McDonalds for breakfast, lunch, and dinner while on the road, we try to frequent Subway for meals!
I walk walk walk. My husband comes with me, and we walk everywhere, forsaking the car as much as possible. If we’re on a beach, we walk until we’re practically in China.
I walk alot on vacation and try to eat allot of salads for lunch
When you are away from home its hard to eat right all the time. But I make sure I make the smarter choices on my selections. I also utilize exercise facilities in the hotels that we stay in!
When I travel I stay fit by swimming in the pool at night and using the workout gym in the morning and I drink alot of water! I love business trips they keep me healthy!

would love to win this!
I try to do a lot of walking and swimming.
I look into available activities – especially things I don’t do ta home. while on a cruise this summer, I went ice skating (on board) and used zip-lines (on excursions.) What fun!
I also avoided using the elevators.
I pack snacks that I would usually eat at home and do things that would take more energy. For example park far away at shopping stores.
When I go on vacation I get in as much walking as I can everyday.
Just_Kelly – Those are the best workouts – when they don’t feel like exercise!
IamSucceeding – What a smart idea to get a place with a kitchen. I bet it makes a big difference in what you eat.
cassandra0706 – LOL about your 30 pound weight.
Kelly F – Good idea! I try to do that, too, but sometimes fail when I am in a hurry and unorganized! Thanks for stopping by – I will check out your blog.
maryemills – Gotta indulge in the local ice cream for sure.
Wow tobi1128 – I am impressed. I can never get up early, especially when I’m on vacation!
cdziuba – China, huh?
I love walking, too. It’s the best way to explore new places.
lisaray – Trying new activities is a fabulous idea when you’re on vacation – good for you!
First thing I do is scope out the hotels & make sure mine has an indoor pool. I can do my running or walking in the water, keep fresh & enjoy some down time.
Next thing I do is check online for restaurants nearby, scope out the nutritional info (most have it listed online) and make my “choices” before I even get there to the restaurant!
Keeping my “drink” with me constantly helps. I always have a bottle full with water or water like substance to keep me hydrated & feeling more “full”.
Last but not least, I make sure I have internet access because I have enough “Fitter Twitter” friends and blogs to keep me inspired even when I’m NOT “at home”.
Dear FF Queen,
I try to eat what I eat at home with the exception of one special meal with my hubby somewhere nice, indulging in something decadent or new to the palate.
I walk like crazy through the whole vacation.
If my “arther” acts up, I move a little slower…but move!
We do a lot of walking and sight seeing
WE try to take active vacations, particularly biking and hiking, and golf. Salads and lots of fruit help with following a good eating plan.
My husband and I like to go to Europe on vacation, and that is my time to splurge a little, diet-wise. For breakfast and lunch I try to eat like I do at home, but I do indulge my taste for pastries and beer in ways I definitely do not at home. As for exercise, it’s just walking, walking, walking, all the day long. So far, no pounds gained on vacation!
hockeygal4ever – Wow – you really are pro-active about your trips, huh? Good for you! What is your Twitter handle?
Kansas Girl – Glad you make room to indulge in something decadent. That’s what vacations are for… as long as you don’t overdo it!
Fraeu – Sounds like all that walking takes care of all those pastries and beer!
when i travel, i try to order salads inorder to stay fit as well as engage in physical activities where i am vacationing
When I vacation I try to make use of the hotel gym if possible, the pool and of course walking. What great fitness ideas! Thanks so much for the comments!
When I travel I use the hotel gym if they have one and (luckily) we usually go to somewhere with an ocean so there is lots and lots of swimming involved! However…I eat whatever the local food might be and as much of it as my little tummy can handle. It is vacation after all :p
I try to stock up on non-perishable items to keep in the room, and to keep an ice chest for cold stuff. If the hotel has an in-room refridgerator, so much the better! Having access to yogurt, cheese, 100 calorie snacks, etc., keeps me on track, and helps on the vacation budget, too.
