Problems with being overweight seem to start earlier than researchers thought. A new study in the journal Pediatrics shows overweight infants were at increased risk for developmental delays and possibly breathing problems, like asthma. And in most cases, parents were not aware of their child’s weight problem.

Childcare programs seem to increase the chances that a child will be obese when he or she shows up for the first day of kindergarten, says a new study in the journal Pediatrics. And researchers say the type of childcare makes a difference.
