Anybody hungry for FREE ice cream? (Psst… it’s this week’s giveaway!)

Over the past couple of weeks I’ve been busy trying a bunch of frozen treats that Blue Bunny sent me – they either had no added sugar or were lower in calories, sugars, and carbs. Besides the no sugar added Bunny Tracks ice cream in the picture above (reduced fat vanilla ice cream with chocolate-covered peanuts, peanut butter-filled chocolate bunnies, chocolate fudge and peanut butter caramel), I also sampled the following:

Yes, even in the 30-degree weather we’ve been having here in Ohio, I can down some frozen goodies – I just crank up the heater or throw on an extra sweater. Yum! They’re all tasty!

My favorite is the strawberry bars – I love strawberries, and these have real chunks of the fruit in each bar.

I liked the Bunny Tracks a lot, too, but it had a slight Splenda aftertaste to me – I’m super sensitive to that kind of thing. My brother, his wife, and my niece and nephew also tried it but didn’t notice an aftertaste.

The personals are a good idea, but each one is actually two servings – not one – so keep that in mind. The whole container is 200 calories. Not bad for ice cream.

These are no ordinary same ol’ same ol’ fat-burning steps – trust me. When I picked up weight-loss coach, Janice Taylor’s new book, All is Forgiven, Move On – Our Lady of Weight Loss’s 101 Fat-Burning Steps on Your Journey to Sveltsville, I found myself marking page after page of funny, off-beat, and unique tips, recipes, and wacky things like Get out of Jail Free cards – just in case you get off track from time to time during your journey.

Oh, and did I mention Janice is also a weight-loss artist? This is one of her pieces – they are digitally enhanced collages printed throughout the book. They are brilliant. More on this later…

But first I had to  know, “Just who is this Our Lady of Weight Loss?” Apparently, Our Lady spoke to Janice when she was at her wit’s end – after years of yo-yo dieting, she had reached her highest weight ever.

“I had tears in my eyes,” Janice recalls. “I was like, I’m never going to make it. I was defeated, depressed and feeling deprived before I even began. In that moment I heard a voice – which I maintain to this day was outside of me and was Our Lady of Weight Loss – because I was way too mired in self pity to think of anything positive. And the voice said, ‘If you think you’re never going to make it, you never will.’ In that moment, I really got it.”

So Janice lost it – the weight, that is. 50 pounds gone. Only she says she didn’t really lose those 50 pounds because “if you lose it, you will find it.” And that wasn’t the case. No, this time Janice says she “permanently removed” the weight.

She used her talent to help her, making art about food instead of eating it.

“I said, I’ll make sexy vegetable collages,” says Janice. “They say whatever you focus on is what you manifest. So, what was I focusing on? Sexy vegetables with long, skinny legs.”

From the book:

“Our Lady of Weight Loss promised me that as I filled my heart with joy, explored happiness, and put some energy into doing the things that I’ve always wanted to do but never seemed to have the time to do, the excess weight would mysteriously melt off, leaving a fat trail behind me.”

Janice’s art went from being a permanent fat removal tool to being a hit at art shows… then to her website… and books. She says she has the secret to being slim forever – forgiveness. All is Forgiven, Move On shows you how to forgive yourself and instead focus on what you want in life and use the weight loss to fuel it.

“For every ounce I removed and for every ounce of fat that melted away, I exchanged the fat for something more meaningful in my life,” Janice explains. “As I let go of the extra weight, I let go of a lot of mental clutter, environmental clutter, and I left a job I didn’t like. I freed myself. I freed myself of weight. I freed myself to do what I wanted to do. I freed myself of every should, every can’t, every I wish I could.”

We’ve talked about how keeping a food journal can help you keep track of what you eat and help you lose weight. But what about taking pictures of your food? A recent study finds when volunteers were asked to take a picture of everything they ate, they started eating healthier food.

Researchers say the photographs made people think more carefully about what they ate because they knew they had to take a picture of it.

So I thought it would be interesting to do our own fun little food photo experiment/contest. Here’s how it’s going to work:

Take a picture of just one thing (meal or snack) you eat each day for 14 days – October 20-November 2. Every day, just email me the pictures and I will post them on FFTV. Tell me if or how taking these pictures affected you – for example, did it change what you ate? Whoever is the most consistent – i.e. takes a picture every day and sends it to me – wins. If we have a tie, we will have a drawing for the winner.

If you haven’t noticed yet, I’ve got a thing for chocolate. I love the good stuff. So when the Cabaret Brewed Chocolate folks asked me if I wanted to try their new warm beverage, I had to know more. How many calories are in this? Is it good for you? Brewing chocolate – Why would you want to do that? I’d never heard of such a thing.

Here’s what I found out from the makers of Cabaret.

What is Brewed Chocolate?
“We brew whole raw cacao beans in water to extract the flavor and essence – much the same as coffee is brewed from coffee beans. Then we sweeten this wonderful liquid with organic evaporated cane juice and reduce it into concentrated syrup. You stir this syrup into hot water – by the teaspoon – to instantly create a small cup of brewed chocolate.”

“We all know that chocolate does make people feel good,” says Brewed Chocolate creator, Rob Polevoi. “But the idea here was to say, ‘How can we take all of the best things out of chocolate from an emotional and physical health standpoint and allow chocolate to be presented as a basic beverage – an alternative to coffee, to tea, or even to wine, for a modern lifestyle?’”

The result – a natural, low-calorie drink (24 calories per serving) with almost no fat. And how does it taste? It’s hard to describe. Not really chocolatey. More like a cane juice sweetened chocolate tea. You feel like you’re getting to know the cocoa bean flavor intimately – in a whole new way. It’s good, and calming.
