Have you seen this orange button around the Internet? Want to know what it’s all about? It’s the icon for RSS – Really Simple Syndication.
Basically, it’s just a way for blogs/websites to get their information out easily… and for you to get that information easily, too – kind of like how podcasts go out on iTunes, RSS feeds go out on “RSS Readers.” You subscribe to a podcast, you get it on your iPod; you subscribe to an RSS feed and you get the information in a Reader.
What’s cool is for people who subscribe to these feeds – you can sign up for feeds from 100 different websites or however many you want… and instead of going to each one every day to check to see what’s new, you just go to your Reader and see everything that’s new from all the sites you subscribed to all on one page. As Google says, it’s like “a personalized inbox for the entire web.” Nice, right?
